Product Description

Gaura lindheimeri is a popular, light and airy perennial plant with delicate pinwheels of bloom held on long graceful stems over narrow leaves. When everything in the garden has worn itself out and starting to look a bit dejected, Gaura lindheimeri is just the plant to bring life back to your borders.

Fresh and airy, Gaura adds a touch of lightness to your planting schemes, forming an exceptionally long-flowering plant.  Producing its flowers from late spring to early autumn youíll get an amazing 5 months of colour - it's a welcome addition to any mixed flower border!

'Gambit Rose Bicolour' is a recent introduction and a new colour break that forms a compact cushion of deep burgundy-red new foliage and buds which burst into striking, neon-pink bicoloured flowers. A light, informal plant, 'Gambit Rose' quickly and easily fills gaps in borders with a haze of blossom, making it a great substitute for gypsophillia or London Pride in the garden.

Perfectly suited to a pot due to its compact size, Gaura looks great on the patio or a light balcony, so anyone can enjoy is beautiful rosy blooms. An easy plant to grow and fully winter hardy, it's a prairie native, so prefers a warm spot in a light soil where it can happily grow upwards through other plants. Give it space so that its wispy stems can lean over other plants and try not to move it as it will sulk if disturbed and withhold its fabulous blooms.

Supplied as an established plant in a 9cm pot, 'Gambit Rose Bicolour' will grow to around 50cms tall so is suited to the middle of any sunny border.

Care Guide

Planting Advice for Gaura lindheimeri 'Gambit Rose Bicolour'

  • Plants prefer moist, well-drained soil in full sun.
  • Unpack plugs immediately and stand them in water for an hour.
  • If you canít do this, they can sit in Mini Greenhouses for a week if upright and not too wet.
  • Plugs may be slightly dry or yellow after being in a dark box in the post, but theyíll quickly recover.
  • Put them somewhere warm, light and airy such as a windowsill or greenhouse.
  • When potting on, handle plugs carefully. Pot on using our 9cm pots in Shuttle Trays, using good multi-purpose compost.
  • Give your plants a good water initially, then only when the top compost starts to dry. They donít like to be left in standing water.
  • Feed using a high-potash feed such as Blooming Fast Superior Soluble Fertiliser for Flowers & Fruits, to encourage flowering.
  • When plants are large enough to plant out, prepare the soil by digging over and removing any weeds.
  • Incorporate some well-rotted manure to enrich the soil if necessary.
  • Individually knock out each plant from its container.
  • Next use a trowel or spade to create a hole just deep and wide enough to set in the rootball.
  • The aim is to bury just the roots, leaving the bases of the stems (when in growth in summer) or the shoots (in spring) above ground.
  • Firm back around the soil, using your hand for small clumps and your heel on larger areas.
  • Water in well to settle the soil and prevent desiccation.

Aftercare Advice for your Gaura 'Gambit Rose'

  • Plants are drought tolerant once established and removing faded flowers will encourage a longer period of blooming.

Pruning Advice for Gaura

  • Naturally compact plants, plants just need faded flowers removing to keep them tidy.
  • Resist the temptation to cut back after the plant has flowered, as it takes on beautiful autumn tints, particularly in cold weather.
