Product Description

The ‘Alba’ but also known as the Bleeding Heart, produces masses of delicate white, heart-shaped flowers in late spring every year, each tipped with an elegant teardrop. The branches spread into arching sprays of unique blooms in a simply beautiful display to fill your garden with passion.

Perfect for planting at the front of a shady border, it will make an unusual and eye-catching addition to a cottage garden theme - try planting with rose bushes where its blooms will complement the roses perfectly. Its compact and reliable habit means that it is also great in pots, for unbeatable displays.

Fully winter hardy and super-easy to grow, Alba is a perennial plant so although it dies back underground each summer, you can be assured that each year your plant will come back bigger and stronger, giving you show-stopping displays every spring.

Best of all, it is one of the easiest to grow of all perennials and is pretty much NO maintenance.

Supplied as an established plant in a 9cm pot, ready to plant.

Plant Information

Top Tips

As Alba becomes dormant in summer, it's best to plant them among other plants which will take over as the plants retreat underground.

Care Guide

  • Best grown in fertile, moist but well-drained soil in a semi-shaded position, avoiding exposed locations. Will grow perfectly well in a sunny border, you will just need to makre sure that it is kept watered regularly to prevent scorch.
  • Plants may need staking to support the branches.
  • As the plant dies back over summer, the leaved will yellow and the stems wither - at this point you can cut them down to ground level, and you may get a second flush of feathery green leaves.
  • When new growth emerges in spring, add a slow-release fertiliser to the soil to encourage longer blooming.
