Bred to be perfectly at home in UK gardens, this new generation of hybrids are long flowering with good growth, are completely hardy and best of all affordable. Aditionally, because they are commercially grown, we can guarantee that no wild colonies have been plundered!
Calanthe (also known as the Christmas Orchid) is easy to keep in the garden with temperatures as low as -10°C, becoming dormant over the winter before returning each spring with its display of amazing, tropical flowers. This selection of hybrid Calanthe produces spectacular candelabra-like, scented blooms in a huge range of colours from yellow through to deep red which last for up to 12 weeks.
Much more resilient and vigorous than the species previously offered for sale, these garden orchids will grow and bloom in any garden, on the patio or your balcony too, growing well in an average garden soil as long as a few simple requirements are met. This hardy perennial plant naturalises when happy and will come back bigger and better each year with its fabulous flowers, even in the darkest corner of your garden as it thrives in shade!
In contrast to other winter-hardy Orchids, the leaves of Calanthe remain green through the winter. Cut the old leaves with secateurs in March, taking care to avoid the new shoots as they emerge. Flowers will follow in May on one or more stems*
Easy to maintain for all types of gardener whatever your level of experience, Calanthe is real Orchid for the garden!
*Please note that as we supply plants without flower, we cannot guarantee the colour that you will receive.
