A cottage garden classic and a contemporary must-have for the modern garden, bearded irises are an instantly recognisable heralds of the summer.
Iris Germanica 'Ambassadeur' is a bearded iris with a striking smoky bronze, dark velvety-maroon bicolored bloom. Although the overall colour effect is a vibrant purple, the blooms of 'Ambassadeur' shift in tone throughout the day depending on the light, becoming purple, red, bronze, and all colours in between.
Totally winter hardy, irises return each year getting bigger and better with each season. Ideal for naturalising, plants are drought tolerant once established and are really easy to grow.
One of the taller irises, Ambassadeur is a widely branched, relatively later blooming variety with flowers held on stout, erect stems - which makes it perfect for cutting.
Easy to grow in any well-drained soil in full sun, this iris is also pest resistant and is supplied as an established, well-rooted specimen in a 9cm pot, ready for planting out as long as the soil isn't waterlogged.
