‘Winter Beauty’ is an extraordinary clematis that’s extremely popular, and for very good reason. Coming into flower in the depths of winter, it is loved by gardeners for bringing delightful winter cheer to the garden, so much appreciated during the coldest, darkest time of year.
This beautiful climber is evergreen, with glossy dark green foliage meaning it looks good throughout the year. However, it’s in December that it begins to put on the show for which it is so admired. Small, bell-shaped flowers emerge in clusters, gently nodding downwards. Opening one by one from pale green buds, they have a waxy look and are pure white with petals that are swept backwards at the tips. What’s more, they carry a wonderful, delicate and sweet fragrance that will drift through the winter air.
A hardy and robust clematis, it will grow best in well drained soil in a sunny or partially shaded spot, sheltered from wind. Ideal for planting in borders or in pots, grow it where you can appreciate its sublime scent and beautiful flowers. It’ll grow large enough to cover pergolas, trellises and obelisks but won’t take over your garden.
Supplied as an established plant in a 9 cm pot, ready to plant, growing to a height and spread of 3 m (10 ft).
