A cottage garden favourite, this spectacular variety of Wisteria is an American form that is perfectly suited to growing in UK gardens with its racemes of luxurious purple flowers. A reliable climber you can be sure that it will flower in your garden as it is grafted and therefore proven to bloom.
Unlike many other varieties which can take up to 7 years to flower, the showy, rounded blooms of 'Longwood Purple' will cascade like a river of lilac from its second year, filling the air with sweet perfume.
Wisterias are actually really easy to grow and will reward you with many years of pleasure in your garden. Ideal for covering a wall or pergola, wisteria can also be grown up and through an existing tree for a stunning torrent of flowers in your garden.
No longer reserved for large country houses, in its early years Longwood Purple will remain compact and manageable and as such makes a brilliant patio plant - perfect for growing in a large pot to cover pergolas and patios with cascades of bloom.
After 10 years it will reach a height of 5m (16-17ft) and will spread to around 3m (10ft) if left un-pruned. It can however be maintained at half this size and still yield masses of flowers every single spring!
Supplied as an established plant in a 9cm pot, ready for immediate planting.
