Product Description

If you want to set your garden ablaze with colour this year, our sensational Trumpet Vines are perfect - they look totally tropical, and are actually very hardy, tough and easy to grow, plus they flower their socks off from summer well into autumn with bright, vivid displays.

Creating the most wonderfully bold and bright climbing displays, these Campsis are ideal for growing around terraced and patio areas where the colourful flowers will smother walls and decorative structures in a profusion of striking blooms from July to September each and every year. Hardier and more floriferous than many other varieties of Campsis, they're perfect for British gardens.

Bearing the classic ‘trumpet’ shaped flowers from which they get their name, the contrast between the dazzling flowers against the backdrop of glossy green leaves is a real eye-catcher.

Classed as vines, Campsis climbs aided by aerial roots which makes them great for growing against sunny walls, trellises, sheds etc where they can easily be fixed or tied in - as they flower best when exposed to sun for most of the day.

In summer, they will erupt into a magnificent display - plastered in bold, bright trumpet-shaped flowers that bees just adore. Widely grown on the continent, you may have seen their bold displays before, but this new breeding is tougher, and more floriferous, and with stronger colours too.

Supplied as a pair of established plants in 1L pots, ready for immediate planting.

Plant Information

Top Tips

Grow Campsis against a warm sunny wall and provide shelter from cold winds - it will need full sun to ripen the wood if it is to flower freely.

Care Guide

Planting Advice for your Campsis Collection:

  • Grow in a sunny, sheltered site in well-drained soil.  Protect from drying winds. Plants will tolerate light shade.
  • Dig a planting hole 3 x wider than the roots of the climber you're planting and mix some well-rotted compost or manure with the soil from the hole and use this to re-fill once the shrub is in place.
  • Before planting soak container-grown shrubs thoroughly and allow to drain.
  • Remove each plant from its pot and tease out a few of the roots.
  • Add Mycorrhizal fungi to the roots when planting to help plants establish quicker.
  • Place each climber in the hole at the same level at the pot, about 30cm (1ft) away from the structure that you wish it to climb up and angled towards the support.
  • Refill the hole with the earth removed (backfilling), then firm in the soil with your heel, avoiding the root ball.
  • Water well and mulch around the base of the plant with a collar, compost, gravel, bark etc

Aftercare advice for Campsis:

  • Hardy to -10°C, protect from cold winds as it is these that tend to cause the most damage to young plants.
Feed with a general-purpose fertiliser such as our Blooming Fast Superior Plant Food or fish, blood and bone, scattered at the base in early spring.
  • Campsis are fairly drought tolerant, but newly established plants should be watered in dry spells.
  • Young plants are best tied-in to supporting wires as it takes two or three years to establish a strong woody framework of branches.

Pruning Advice for Campsis:

  • Once a framework is established, usually in two to three years, spur-prune side shoots annually in late winter. This involves cutting back side shoots to within two or three buds of the main stems.
  • Remove any weak growth and cut back damaged stems close to the base.
