Product Description
This superb Clematis was launched at the 2017 Chelsea Flower Show and was judged as most admired plant by visitors to the show. The fully double blooms have the appearance of cactus dahlias reaching 4in across or more. Petals are blue purple - each one delicately tipped with a lime cream splash. Opening slowly they give a spiky effect to the flowers which develop into gloriously exotic rosettes. Early to bloom Taiga flowers and flowers all summer long.
This is a real statement plant for the garden and uniquely unusual too so sure to be loved by neighbours and friends. It's the ideal plant to grow on an obelisk in a large container or in pride of place in the border scrambling up a trellis or pergola.
It's easy to care for and pruning is simple - just cut each stem back to about 30cm in spring just above a pair of buds. this encourages the new growth on which the wonderful flowers are borne. Like most clematis Taiga like a sunny spot and will do best if roots are given a little shade by lower growing plants.
Supplied as an established plant in 9cm pot, ready to pot on or plant out.

Plant Information
Top Tips
Clematis like a cool ‘root run’ so try and plant so that the roots are shaded. If you are planting in a sunny position, place some pieces of slate or flat stones on the soil after planting or use groundcover plants to keep the roots cool.
Care Guide
Planting your Clematis:
- If planting by a wall or fence - the hole should be dug approx. 30cm (12in) away from its base.
- If planting by a tree - plant about 2 feet (60cm) away from the trunk leaning the cane of the clematis towards the support.
- Dig a planting hole 3 x wider than the roots of the shrub you're planting and mix some well-rotted compost or manure with the soil from the hole and use this to re-fill once the clematis is in place.
- Before planting soak container-grown shrubs thoroughly and allow to drain.
- Remove the plant from its pot and tease out a few of the roots.
- Add Mycorrhizal fungi to the roots when planting to help plants establish quicker.
- Plant with the crown of the plant 5-8cm deep to encourage new shoots to grow from below ground level.
- Refill the hole with the earth removed (backfilling), then firm in the soil with your heel, avoiding the root ball and water in well.
Aftercare advice for your clematis:
- Feed in spring with a general-purpose feed, avoiding the stems. Mulch immediately afterwards with organic matter such as well-rotted manure, leaf mould or garden compost.
- Water regularly during periods of dry weather in the first few seasons after planting, especially for container plants.
- Clematis in pots should be given a liquid feed through the summer and early autumn.
- 'Taiga' flowers in late summer on growth made in that season and should be pruned in late winter or early spring - simply cut back to just above a strong pair of leaf buds about 30cm (1ft) above soil level.

Rated with 2 stars as have used them in the past and been pleased with the experience. This time however was a different matter. Ordered clematis and bedding plants on April 9th, delivery time expected 7-14 days. After no sign of order 2 weeks later, I called customer service to find out where my order was and was told by a polite lady that they were on their way. After another few days I called again and spoke to a young man who then informed me that they had not even been packed for shipping yet but were scheduled to be shortly. When asked to explain what was going on I was told he couldn't help because he was working from home and had no contact with the nursery.
Plants finally turned up 5 days later and we found one clematis ok, one with a broken stalk which was saveable. The bedding plants were weak but we potted on and some have survived. Thought about demanding my money back as it was way past time for getting bedding plants in for the summer and was not willing to wait another 5 weeks.
I know things are difficult at the moment but sadly I was not impressed with this experience and will probably rely on my local garden centre in future.
