Its immensely pretty, apricot-pink blooms carry a strong, sweet perfume that will fill your garden, and these are complimented by the deep-red stems and glossy leaves. Repeat flowering quickly and reliably throughout the summer months, 'Compassion' is ideal for cutting.

Vigorous, healthy, reliable and easy to grow, this classic climber has won many awards over the years and is a must-have for any garden wall, fence or trellis.

Fully deserving its coveted RHS Award of Garden Merit, you can be sure that this is a proven garden performer, guaranteed to be suitable for UK gardeners at every level of experience. You can therefore plant this in the garden with confidence, for stunning displays for many years to come.

Climbing roses have large flowers, held singly or in small groups and are a great way to create height in the garden. As they are repeat flowering, they’re the perfect plant to cover unsightly structures with beautiful colour throughout the summer months.

Plant Information

Top Tips

  • When pruning, make sure that your secateurs are clean and sharp to prevent squashing stems and introducing disease.
  • Add mycorrhizal fungi to the roots when planting to help the plant establish quicker.

Care Guide

Planting Advice for Compassion Rose:

  • Roses can be planted at any time of the year, as long as the soil is not frozen, waterlogged or drought dry.
  • Plant your rose where it can get plenty of sun for at least half of the day, and where it will be sheltered from the wind.
  • Add plenty of well-rotted manure into the hole and plant so that the graft union (the swollen are when the stems meet the roots) is just below soil level.
  • Add mycorrhizal fungi to the roots when planting to help the plant establish quicker.

Aftercare Information for your 'Compassion' rose:

  • Water well every other day - daily if the weather is hot and dry.
  • Established roses can be watered around once a week through spring and summer - more if the weather is hot.
  • Stems can be tied into a support as they grow.
  • For best results, feed roses in in late-March/April and again late July.

Pruning Advice for Rosa Compassion:

  • To prune, remove any dead, dying, damaged and diseased stems and also deadhead regularly.
  • Prune in winter, after the flowers have faded, between December and February. Long whippy shoots can be shortened by a third and tied in during autumn, to prevent wind damage.
  • Traditionally, you would cut just above a leaf joint with a sloping cut away from the bud, however, this isn't necessary, and don’t worry about pruning too much - roses are very resilient and will grow back.
