Berberis, also known as Barberry, is an attractive deciduous shrub with dense foliage and small, oval leaves.
Berberis ‘Chocolate Summer’ is an incredibly useful garden plant. Thriving in a sunny location, its deep burgundy-brown leaves are carried on vibrant red stems, a striking colour combination anywhere in your garden.
Recommended by the RHS as a 'Plant for Pollinators', during April and May, dainty bright yellow flowers emerge, attracting bees and butterflies. These are followed in late summer by small orange berries, with both the flowers and berries set off beautifully by the dark foliage.
‘Chocolate Summer’ is completely hardy and adaptable. It’s happy in beds and borders or in patio pots, where it’ll provide a spectacular colour contrast to the surrounding plants, and it’s a great choice for a low hedge too! Drought tolerant and easy to maintain, only requiring a light trim after flowering and again in autumn to maintain its shape, this beautiful Berberis will certainly earn its place in your garden.
Supplied as an established plant in a 9cm pot, ready for planting, reaching a height of 1.2m (4ft) and width of 60cm (2ft).
