Product Description
Grown as a standard, this dazzling Rhododendron ‘Leo’ boasts stunningly vibrant clusters of funnel-shaped scarlet flowers in April and May.
Beautifully glossy, dark green elongated leaves form a dense, compact evergreen shrub. The perfect backdrop for showing off the fabulous flowers and just the thing to bring a dash of spring colour to your patio.
The soil should be on the acidic side and rich in humus and always moist which will allow established plants to withstand direct mid-day and afternoon sun. Use ericaceous compost if growing in a pot, or add it to the planting hole in the border.
Rhododendrons are low-maintenance shrubs that prefer bright to dappled shade or partial shade, avoiding morning sunlight which can damage buds. Keep well watered.

Top Tips
- Deadhead faded blooms where possible and avoid deep shade, as this will reduce flowering.
- Perfect for growing in a large container using ericaceous compost, just make sure that you feed and watered well and re-pot every couple of years.
Care Guide
- Rhododendrons can tolerate a more open site as long as they are sheltered from cold, drying winds and early morning sunlight. Mulch plants and water deeply and regularly during dryer periods from July onwards.
- Your Rhododendron should be planted slightly higher than it was in its pot into well-draining soil.
- Rhododendrons need an acidic soil with a pH of around 5.5 in order to thrive - soils with pH higher than 5.5 should be acidified before planting or you can grow them in a container with ericaceous compost.
- Keep plants well-watered and apply a mulch to prevent the soil from drying out.
