Product Description

A beautiful, variegated Euonymus, ‘Marieke’ has wonderfully bright, glossy golden yellow leaves with green centres.

The evergreen foliage is at its brightest during new growth throughout spring and summer, making ‘Marieke’ stand out from surrounding plants, and it’s a welcome and colourful sight during winter too. Small yellowy summer flowers are followed by pink or purple berries in autumn.

Expertly grown in standard form with a clipped topiary lollipop head, it’ll bring height and formality to the garden all year round. Ideal either side of a door or gate or lining a pathway, and it’s an interesting alternative to standard box, bay or conifers and has a naturally neat habit, only needing an occasional trim to keep it in shape.

Supplied as an established standard bush, 60-70cm tall in a 15cm pot and reaching 1.5m (5ft) in height and 1.2m (4ft) wide, depending on pruning.

Care Guide

Planting Advice for Euonymus

  • Grow Euonumus in any sheltered site in well-drained soil.
  • Dig a planting hole 3 x wider than the roots of the shrub you're planting and mix some well-rotted compost or manure with the soil from the hole and use this to re-fill once the shrub is in place.
  • Before planting soak container-grown shrubs thoroughly and allow to drain.
  • Remove the plant from its pot and tease out a few of the roots.
  • Add Mycorrhizal fungi to the roots when planting to help plants establish quicker.
  • Place your shrub in the hole at the same level at the pot.
  • Refill the hole with the earth removed (backfilling) and firm in the soil with your heel, avoiding the root ball.
  • Water well and mulch around the base of the plant with a collar, compost, gravel, bark etc.
  • If you're planting into pots, place some old rocks, stones or gravel in the bottom of the pot for drainage and ballast. Use the best compost you can buy and some sand or grit for drainage.

Pruning Advice for Euonymus:

  • Remove any branches that revert to green.
  • Trim to shape with secateurs to avoid cutting into the leaves.
