The exotic looking flowers of Rhododendron ‘Wine and Roses’ are sure to delight during May and June. True to its name, they appear in flamboyant clusters in beautiful rose pink with delicate red wine edges.
Although the flowers are undoubtedly gorgeous, it’s the foliage of this superb Rhododendron that makes it really stand out. The leaves are a lovely bronze colour when young, before maturing into lush deep green. But the real treat is on the underside, which is coloured in stunning dark magenta pink, and compliments the flowers to perfection!
Preferring acid soils, rhododendrons bring an exotic touch to the garden, and 'Wine and Roses' is spectacularst as a specimen in a large pot where you can get up close and admire the foliage and flowers. The soil should be on the acidic side and rich in humus and always moist which will allow established plants to withstand direct mid-day and afternoon sun. Use ericaceous compost if growing in a pot, or add it to the planting hole in the border.
Rhododendrons are low-maintenance shrubs that prefer bright to dappled shade or partial shade, avoiding morning sunlight which can damage buds. Keep well watered.
Supplied as an established plant in a 13cm pot, 'Wine and Roses' will grow to a height and spread of 1m (3ft).
