The perfect solution to evergreen groundcover and an essential element to autumn container displays, the humble heather is a multi-purpose, much loved plant that delivers much needed interest to the garden when everything else is dormant.
Heathers thrive in acid (ericaceous) soil and make the perfect specimen plant for containers where you can directly influence the soil in which they are growing, which is one of the things that make them so good for late season colour in the garden.
Blooming from late summer and well into the autumn, heathers prefer sandy, well-draining soil that has been beefed up with organic matter.
Growing in a low mound of needle like leaves, heathers flower with a whole range of colours from white through to pink and purple, the blooms stay on the plants over winter, long after they have faded, giving added effect to your plantings.
Easy to grow, they'll need no pruning and tend to be treated as annuals if grown in containers, being recycled in the spring when tender bedding can be put out.
Use them as a backbone to a container display and add other winter gems such as cyclamen or winter pansies.
Supplied as a collection of 6 mixed plants in 10.5 cm pots*
