Product Description

This Leptospermum Scoparium is a glorious late spring flowering shrub. It is a perfect choice for providing year-round interest in your garden.

In spring, the branches of this 'Red Damask' become tightly smothered in a frenzy of ruffled pinky-red flowers, setting the tree on fire with colour. In bloom all the way through the summer, and thanks to its evergreen nature, it continues to look just beautiful once the flowering has ended.

Also known as the New Zealand Tea Tree, closely related to the Tea Tree Oil producing plant with very similar flowers, this evergreen shrub makes a welcome addition to sunny spots in the garden and can be housed in a greenhouse or conservatory over the winter months.

Fully deserving its coveted RHS Award of Garden Merit, you can be sure that this is a proven garden performer, guaranteed to be suitable for UK gardeners at every level of experience. You can therefore plant this in the garden with confidence, for stunning displays for many years to come. It is also highly attractive to bees and beneficial pollinators, it is a great choice for bringing your garden to life with wildlife.

They tolerate drought well, and thrive on coastal areas, although may be damaged by frosts below -5C, so perhaps grow in a pot or against a warming wall.

Supplied as an established plant in a 9cm pot, ready to plant.

Care Guide

  • Plant in any well-drained soil - leptospermum dislike cold wet soils.
  • Position in a warm, sunny, and sheltered spot in your garden.
  • Hardy down to -5C, they are ideal when planted up against a sheltered south or west facing wall.
  • It is wind chill rather than frost which can often damage leptospermum, so in cold, exposed areas it is best to grow them as a patio plant in a container that can be brought back into the greenhouse or conservatory for the winter.
