Trees add structure and drama to a garden, and native trees bring much needed colour which changes with the seasons.
Native trees will benefit local ecosystems, providing food and shelter for many species of birds, mammals and insects, and this tree has been UK grown from UK-sourced seed.
They're low maintenance, thriving naturally in favourable conditions and being native can cope with our rainfall.
Environmentally, native trees help combat global warming by using carbon dioxide and also help protect from flooding by preventing soil erosion, reducing surface run off and slowing large floods - two of the most important environmental considerations at present!
More commonly known as pussy willow, this rounded deciduous shrub produces large grey catkins in spring that resemble a cat's paw - hence the name.
The catkins emerge before the leaves and look stunning against the orange-yellow shoots.
Unlike most willows, the leaves are rounded with a downy underside and are easily recognisable as the tip bends slightly to the side. They are one of the main food sources for the rare Purple Admiral butterfly so well worth growing!
Supplied as a plug-grown sapling 20-40cm from end to end, ready for immediate planting.
