Geranium 'Orkney Cherry' hails from the Orkney Islands in the North of Scotland and is a unique and fully hardy geranium that will captivate you as soon as you see it!
This eye-catching plant is, as you would expect, fully hardy (to -18°C) easy to grow and robust - a testament to its provenance, and delights all who see it with stunning, contrasting colours - the flowers are bright, bubblegum pink, and the leaves a dark green with bronze tones. The delicate blooms fade as they age to a soft pink, meanng that there will also be a multitude of colours on the plant over the season.
Easy to grow, Orkney Cherry thrives in shade and will flower for months. From early summer to late autumn, this low-growing perennial forms a spreading carpet of bronze-flushed foliage which becomes smothered in masses of small magenta-pink flowers. The leaves are semi evergreen, meaning that in a milder winter, they will stay on the plankt, bringing mauch needed colour and form to your garden.
'Orkney Cherry' is a cranesbill that can be used in many situations around the garden, whether in hanging baskets, pots on terraces and balconies, in rock gardens, perennial and cottage garden borders or for landscaping. With a compact, creeping growth habit, it's ideal to give a cascading effect at the front of the border, in containers and for softening hard edges.

Planting Advice for Geranium ‘Orkney Cherry’:
- Unpack plugs immediately and stand them in water for an hour.
- If you can’t do this, they can sit in their mini greenhouse for a week if upright and not too wet.
- Plugs may be slightly dry or yellow after being in a dark box in the post, but they’ll quickly recover.
- Put them somewhere warm, light and airy such as a windowsill or greenhouse.
- When potting on, handle plugs carefully. Pot on using our 9cm pots in Shuttle Trays, using good multi-purpose compost.
- Give your plants a good water initially, then only when the top compost starts to dry. They don’t like to be left in standing water.
- Plant approx. 20cm (8in) apart to allow them room to grow.
- Feed using a high-potash feed such as Blooming Fast Superior Soluble Fertiliser for Flowers & Fruits, to encourage flowering.
- When plants are large enough and have filled their pots, they can be planted out in a sunny spot in moist, humus-rich soil.
Aftercare Advice for your hardy geranium:
- Plants will benefit from a chop back of leaves in midsummer to rejuvenate them.
- Lift and divide large clumps in spring.

- Pruning is generally unnecessary, although dead head faded blooms to promote more flowers.
