If you love blackberries but lack the space in your garden or haven't the time to gather tiny wild ones from the hedgerows here is the perfect answer – ‘Black Cascade’, the hanging basket Blackberry!
The result of much breeding work, ‘Black Cascade’ forms a spreading plant which gently cascades from a basket or pot, meaning you can pick the fruits easily at eye level instead of reaching and bending. No more scratched hands either as plants are thorn free. The beautiful white flowers with a touch of pink that appear in summer are a magnet for bees and butterflies. When established one plant will fill a large hanging basket and yield over a kilo of large sweet juicy berries. Grow in containers too - for ease of picking choose a nice tall planter.
Fruit ripens from August to October and whilst perfect for jams and pies it’s also delicious eaten fresh, straight from the plant.

Care Guide
Planting your Trailing Blackberry
- Water your potted plant well.
- Choose a basket or container at least 35 cm (14 in) in diameter filled with good quality compost such as our own premium professional compost.
- Dig a hole a little deeper and 3 x wider than the nursery pot.
- Add a soil conditioner such as well-rotted manure to the earth removed from the hole if necessary.
- Remove the plant from its pot and tease out a few of the roots.
- Place your plant in the hole at the same level at the pot.
- Refill the hole with the earth removed (backfilling).
- Firm in the soil, avoiding the root ball.

- This Blackberry fruits on new wood, so prune in February to remove the previous year's canes to make way for the new season's growth.

Haven't tried GardenBargains before so thought I would place a test order. The order was despatched promptly but was held for a few days by Yodel delivery in their depot. (No fault of GardenBargains) The order arrived and was unpacked. The plants were still in very good condition, not at all suffering from the extended delivery. Very pleased with my order.
