That dream is now easily achievable, even if you are slightly short on garden space, thanks to the outstanding Apricot 'Aprigold' Patio Tree. This compact variety really behaves itself in the garden, staying less than 1.2m tall across 10 years or so.
'Aprigold' makes the ideal potted fruit tree for the patio, balcony, or even planted straight into the garden.
Lovely soft-pink blossom emerges early in the year, transforming this tree into a springtime feature. As new leaves grow, they boast a lovely orange-red tinge, classic of apricots. Apricots are early fruiters, and will be fully established in a year or two, providing good crops of tasty, juicy apricots from late July into August every year.
As 'Aprigold' is self-fertile, a second variety is not needed to be planted nearby for pollination.

Save even more space in your garden by growing your apricot as an espalier on a south facing wall or fence.
Care Guide
- Plant in full sun, away from cold winds.
- Although frost-tolerant, it is still best practice to protect the blossom with fleece.
- When fruit appears, it may need thinning. Remove poorly placed, small or misshapen fruits when they are about the width of your little fingernail. Aiming to have a piece of fruit every 15cm or so.
- Water container-grown trees almost every day during the growing season and give them a high potash liquid feed every couple of weeks.
- Avoid excessive or irregular watering when fruit is ripening to prevent the skin from splitting.
- Prune in early spring, just before growth starts, removing unwanted or damaged branches.
