Product Description

The popular cut flower and houseplant Gerbera has been upgraded to a garden perennial, giving an amazing 5 months of colour from spring to autumn every year.

The world's first Hardy Gerbera in a range of bright, zingy colours, the 'Garvinea Series' was launched to great acclaim across Europe, where the Dutch breeders developed an improved plant with much bigger flowers, and even longer lasting performance.

Winter hardy to around -8C (although avoid severe winter wet), and flowering for several seasons of colour, the highly distinctive flowers of Garvinea simply keep coming - up to 50 on a 2-year-old plant.

Easy to grow and keep, they're also highly resistant to pests and diseases, making them the ideal garden plant!

We love them potted up in bright & bold planters - in a mix of 4 zingy, starburst colours (Opal Fruits if you are a certain age!) you can mix and match your plants to your planters and create an eye-catching display for your patio!

Suppled as 4 x mixed colour plants in 7cm pots ready for potting on or planting out when all risk of frost has passed, Garvineas are herbaceous, so die back completely underground over winter, to emerge bigger and better next year.

Plant Information

Top Tips

Allow plants to dry out between watering - they really do dislike being wet.

Care Guide

  • Grow in full sun or partial shade in well-draining soil.
  • Before planting, prepare the soil by digging over and removing any weeds.
  • Individually knock out each plant from its container. Look at the roots – if they are circling around the compost, it is best to tease them out. To do this, push your fingers into the root ball along the bottom edge and pull. Do this in a couple of places. This should encourage the roots to spread into the surrounding soil.
  • Next use a trowel or spade to create a hole just deep and wide enough to set in the root ball.
  • The aim is to bury just the roots, leaving the bases of the stems (when in growth in summer) or the shoots (in spring) above ground.
  • Firm back around the soil, using your hand for small clumps and your heel on larger areas.
  • Water in well to settle the soil and prevent desiccation.
  • When planting, add some slow release fertilizer to keep your plants fed throughout the season.
  • Do not overwater your plants as they prefer to be grown on the dry side.
  • Remove faded flowers and tired leaves to stimulate the plant into producing more blooms.
  • Plants benefit from a covering mulch of straw over winter.
