Bramley Apple

There’s nothing quite like the smell of freshly baked apple pie wafting through the house on a Sunday morning – and with this tree, you will have the opportunity to do just that for the next 40 to 50 years!

Raised from a single seed by Mary Ann Brailsford in 1809, the worlds favour ite cooking apple has stood the test of time and is about to celebrate its bi-ce ntenary! The fruits have the perfect acidic flavour required for use in the kitc hen and the flesh becomes incredibly light and fluffy when cooked. All of our tr ees are of the specially selected "Clone 20" - the preferred choice of over 500 commercial growers in The UK, because of its characteristics of heavy cropping, high fruit quality and consistency.

Ideally pick the fruit in early October and store cool but frost free so that you can use the apples for up to 4 months thereafter.

Jonagold Apple

This is possibly one of the crunchiest apples you could eat, but it also has fantastic flavour.

Bred in The USA, Jonagold is a cross between the much loved sweet-flavoured Golden Delicious and a variety called Jonathon which is renowned for its tart-zingy flavour. The marriage of these two varieties has given us large fruits which are crisp sweet and juicy; a gleaming white honeyed flesh which is a joy to eat and also has one of the most attractive, stripy skin finishes you could wish for.

The trees of this up and coming variety will thrive exceptionally in UK conditions, but ideally need to be planted in the company of at least one other variety to obtain perfect pollination. Pick the fruit in late October / early November and store cool but frost free for use anytime up to the end of January.

Chester Thornless Blackberry

Blackberries are one of the most delicious summer fruits - eaten fresh from the bush or combined with Bramley Apple in a pie with a short-crust party lid, they are fabulous.

However, if your lasting memories of picking these lovely fruits relate to the cuts and grazes received from the thorns along the long tendril like branches, then worry no more! Chester is completely thorn free, but produces a large crop of sweet and juicy, ivory black fruits from August onwards each year. Grow this up a trellis or along a fence where the self-supporting stems will hold themselves up and offer you their rich pickings. Chester is tough and hardy and will thrive on the poorest of soils, but enjoys a sunny spot where the fruit will tend to have the sweetest flavour.

Our plants are supplied as well established 2 litre potted plants and can be pla nted in to their final position upon arrival. If you want to grow in pots, use a soil based compost and a pot around 10 litres in size.
