Description

Originally native to the West Indies, grapefruits are wonderful, exotic citrus trees that you too can now enjoy in your garden or on your patio.

This tree has attractive, lush, evergreen foliage that produces a great citrus scent when crushed and acts as a fantastic backdrop for its fragrant flowers and large, juicy fruit. The juicy fruits produced are very nutritious - packed full of Vitamin C and will ripen on the tree in late autumn and winter. They can be eaten fresh or used in puddings or marmalade-making. They also have a good shelf life, so can be stored in a cool dry place to be enjoyed over the winter.

This grapefruit tree is very easy to grow, for best results grow in a fertile, well drained, slightly acidic soil in a sunny location where the tree is sheltered from strong winds. The tree is drought tolerant, but should be kept well fed and watered during the summer to ensure a good crop of fruit. Largely pest and disease resistant, this variety is not fully UK winter hardy so should be provided with extra winter protection or better still brought indoors if temperatures drop below freezing point.
