Description
The attractive dark red fruit has intensely dark skin and flesh and a rich flavour, making it popular for use in desserts, liqueurs and syrups. Now you too can grow your own cherries with this reliable, heavy cropping, easy to grow tree.
Perfect for gardens or patios with limited space, this tree is self fertile so does not need to be purchased in pairs. It can be grown in patio containers and or planted out directly in the garden. It flowers later than many variety of cherries, so is less likely to suffer frost or storm damage. The fruits ripen from mid to late summer and can be used fresh from the tree in cooking and baking, but they also freeze exceptionally well for use later in the year.
The trees are relatively easy to cultivate and do not suffer with as many pests and diseases as other varieties. They should be planted in free draining soil and watered and fed regularly with a fertilizer for optimum results. When in fruit it is best to cover the tree with netting to protect the cherries from birds.
