"Breakthrough by breeders! New Chester Blackberry - sweet, juicy and totally thornless for easy pickings!"
Chester Thornless Blackberry in 2 Litre pot

Blackberries are one of the most delicious summer fruits - eaten fresh from the bush or combined with Bramley Apple in a pie with a short-crust party lid, they are fabulous.
However, if your lasting memories of picking these lovely fruits relate to the cuts and grazes received from the thorns along the long tendril like branches, then worry no more! Chester is completely thorn free, but produces a large crop of sweet and juicy, ivory black fruits from August onwards each year.
Grow Chester up a trellis or along a fence where the self-supporting stems will hold themselves up and offer you their rich pickings. Chester is tough and hardy and will thrive on the poorest of soils, but enjoys a sunny spot where the fruit will tend to have the sweetest flavour.
Our plants are supplied as well established 2 litre potted plants and can be planted in to their final position upon arrival. If you want to grow in pots, use a soil based compost and a pot around 10 litres in size.
The Chester Thornless Blackberry, 'Rubus 'Chester Thornless', is a semi-erect variety of blackberry that was developed by the United States Department of Agriculture. This blackberry produces large, round, deep black and very sweet berries. It will give you bumper crops if top quality berries which are perfect eaten fresh or made into jams or blackberry wine.
Chester has been specially bred to be very resilient to cane blight and is very easy to grow.
The branches can grow to 10' long and fruit is produced on the previous years growth.
